December 14, 2012 16:04:16 Observer   Has our nation crossed over into insanity? The senseless slaughter of 20 children in a school is a new low for this nation. While we condone and allow the murder of unborn children by the hundreds of thousands in this country we can see how it has made us callous to the violence around us. Parents and grandparents hug your children and grandchildren and tell them how much you love them. While our campaigner in chief in D.C. spoke of the tragedy he shed tears. If they were for real it was probably the one and only time we have seen him sincere about anything.
December 14, 2012 14:37:08 whatever   Think, that was not a judgement. The statement was addressing the body of work by the supertendent
December 14, 2012 11:42:07 TX-1   was this a bad hunting season or what?
December 13, 2012 17:51:20 think about it   whatever, many times it helps to attend meetings to know all that goes into a job. Not always is there money available to carry out the work that needs doing, until you know the entire story you should not pass judgement on anyone.
December 12, 2012 06:33:09 tommy klehr tklehr@yahoo.com news.yahoo.com/w-va-gas-line-explodes-burns-homes-roads-204556962.html "We've been very fortunate," said Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, who toured the damage then briefed the media. "They were just lucky enough not to be home."
December 11, 2012 11:35:46 what?   Went up Steam Mill rd. today, and wooah, it is slippery all right! My car went back and forth and I wasn't doing more than 20mph. It looks like a repair job, grey shale, or maybe fine ground stone crush and run? If they aren't going to top it off with tar and stone like the rest of the road they should at least put up some caution and drive slow signs.
December 11, 2012 06:53:55 whatever?   You guys make it out that the supertendent is doing something great. The quality of work that he is in charge of is below standard. It does not take more money to give quality work it takes leadership witch is lacking at the position. We are not getting any value on our dollar when it comes to the work on the roads. Plowing is good. Maintence is well below standard. It is not the manpower that is lacking, the dept. is lacking leadership and vision for the future. I will be voting for whom ever runs against the current supertendent.
December 10, 2012 23:50:12 what?   Just for the record, there seems to be more than one what?, there is someone else posting as What?, and What!. I didn't know there was such a liking to my undercover post name! Thank goodness there isn't more than one Bertimouse! Also for the record, I have not criticized our TOM employees. I have alot more confidence that our town super isn't willing to throw around tax dollars than I am of our current President who IS throwing around tax dollars and wants another multi-billion dollar stimulus spending of our tax dollars. The Trillion dollar stimulus Obama spent after his first election gained us negative jobs numbers and a bunch of lies! Woohoo, lets try it again! Just like Democrat City Council member of Detroit JoAnn Watson said; " We Voted For You, Now Give Us Some Bacon." Humm, I thought it was only rumored that Barack O'Claus bought the election because of welfare and entitlements?
December 10, 2012 22:43:32 bertimouse   resident of masonville is right. Maybe What!would like to try&fill his shoes-NOT!What?!Neighbors All-Try walking a Mile in someone elses shoes First before you Crit during Christmas,eh? December 10, 2012 22:10:08 bertimouse   New to Area:if you look there are lots of real estate ads on homes for sale around here that say-no gas leases-as part of their ads.Best advice for you now is to contact some of those real estate firms that say that&ask them to give you the whole story.Real Estate Firms are not allowed to Lie to you.In Delaware County, check out the county records in Delhi on real estate transactions. Our friends in Unadilla are selling now because of an underground gas pipeline that will be cutting straight across their property via eminent domain&there is nothing they can do about it except fight&hope that they re-route the gas pipeline somewhere else&that their buyers dont know anything about this&thats not fair to anyone.Beware! If I were you Id make it a buyers stipulation that-to the best of their knowledge-LOL!Theres a Hoot-there be NO gas pipeline routes or leases on your land&have a Very Good NYS,Delaware County Lawyer to help you Wade Thru&Research before you buy, allot is hidden.Ive seen RE Ads that advertise-NO GAS LEASE-for 19.5 acres so if your looking for something under than say,20 acres then you have to research the Next-Door-big-acre-neighbors-in Delhi. A big-acre neighbor can ruin a little-acre neighbor in a Heartbeat when it comes to gas fracking land lease, maybe not now but if they are in place now,or later, beware! It takes Millions of Gallons of Water to frack a gas well.It takes Thousands of Gallons of over 300 Poisonous Chemicals that the companies dont even want to reveal to NYS DEC,NYSDept.of Health,&our NYS Legislature to frack right now. Pipeline running thru your property? Maybe. Check out Deposit,NY. NTA: Fracking here in the Town of Masonville Anywhere? NEVER.Not as long as I,my family,my animals,my friends,my neighbors Breath. The Town Of Masonville has NO NEED Anywhere for Poisoned Water,Natural Gas Explosions,Natural Gas Heat for that matter, any more Additional Highway Department Costs which is a proven Fact&We Cannot afford the additional training that our Fire Dept.would need not to mention our TOM Board regarding-GAS Disaster Readiness&How To Prepare Your Town. Those that currently support Gas Drilling in the TOM-NEED to understand that Training Costs Tax Dollars as well.Nuff Said.
December 10, 2012 17:35:17 TX-1   Well Well,there is a job opening in MV,any takers?
December 10, 2012 16:43:08 What!   resident of masonville that is not a problem it goes on everyday in the private sector it is just a job that needs a good mamager.
December 10, 2012 16:15:37 resident of masonville   whoever wants to run for hwy superintendent needs lots of knowledge of business , equipment repair, management, and manual labor. Not just receiving a paycheck. Also working all hours of day or night plowing snow and flood work.
December 10, 2012 14:40:04 New to Area   Would like to get a property not that big 5 to 10 acres, next or close to State Land, may be a creek running thru it,just land dont care about buildngs.
December 10, 2012 13:47:11 Who!   resident of masonville. I do not think that these messages were for the Supertendent of Highways. If I am correct they are intended for the voters. The position is comming up for re-election soon. Who knows he might be challenged.
December 10, 2012 13:00:07 resident of masonville   Questions about the town roads , just ask the highway superintendent, leave a phone message .he will return call. Like always , ask the one who does the work not the message board.
December 10, 2012 10:12:33 New to Area   So,some how he would still be the owner, some how he would have rights to the land.now why why would anybody buy it or sell it.
December 10, 2012 09:49:28 Observer   New To Area - Perhaps the seller wishes to maintain the mineral rights for himself. Or perhaps the seller wishes to prevent drilling on the land even though he no longer owns it. Perhaps the seller has already leased the rights thus cannot transfer them. See the below site address. It applies to PA but I am told NYS is about the same. dep.state.pa.us/dep/deput...gas/fs2834.htm
December 10, 2012 09:46:44 Confused   Test
December 10, 2012 09:36:07 New to Area   What is the reason someone would sell a property without minerals rights, knowing it has some thing under ground.
December 10, 2012 08:02:13 just sayin'   anybody who thinks that dirt is not as dangerous on a streep incline in inclement weather just doesn't know what their talking about.
December 09, 2012 21:42:15 what?   Actually, Steam Mill is paved, all the way to the last house. Maybe there was a dirt spill of some sort, better than what I ran into on county rd.35 a couple of weeks ago. The 'honey wagon' had a spill, both sides of the road about a hundred yards long, inch or two deep.It was plastered everywhere! On the doors, handles, bumpers, fenders, inch thick in the wheel wells! I went through the auto car wash hoping it would help, and it still stanks! I heard manure is worse for cars than salt! And these people are complaining about dirt!
December 09, 2012 20:24:53 Observer   While I may be wrong it is my understanding that Shear Road beyond the No Town Maintenance sign(even though there is private property along that road) Is actually designated a state truck trail and the state is responsible for its maintenance, not the town. There are actually a lot of back roads with that designation. One that comes to mind quickly is the truck trail between Melondy Hill road and East Afton Road.
December 09, 2012 19:03:37 Old Fa rt   That is the same story with Shears Rd,but OH NO that road can not be paved.am been asking the same and got no where. there are properties on Shears and am sure they pay their taxes as everyone else, but they get no services from MV,there is about 6 houses pass the no maintenance sign and this people get nothing,i know what some will tell me,they knew it when they got the property, well time changes and if the owners pay to school tax(none of them use school)and county and all their taxes,is only fair that they get their road improved and paved.thats all am saying.
December 09, 2012 17:53:21 Just sayin'   I was traveling on steam mill rd off Rt 206 and almost went off into a ditch. can someone tell me why this road is covered with dirt that is slippery when wet. Is the Highway dept. so overworked that they are negligent in cleaning this road of the hazardous condition it is now in? Maybe there should be an accounting for the poor road conditions around Masonville made to the residents by the untouchable Highway Superintendent?
December 08, 2012 22:32:04 New to area   MV Resident, thanks for the info.that is the story with a very well know piece of property on RT8.
December 08, 2012 21:48:21 Gloria   In reference to LISA with the corgi type dog. I hope you found the owner. Sorry I couldn't be of more help when Kendal called me. I did see that Mike Ellis' number is on the official Masonville website under goverment. Here it is: Animal Control - Mike Ellis (607) 265-3420. I hope you found the owner or a good home for the dog.
December 08, 2012 19:44:42 MV Resident   New to the area,. Check this out.. If you buy a property for 20,000.00 just for the top of the land rights. and some finds out mineral and oil under neith. and they find out is worth 5 million dollars. but its your property but the underneith is not yours , you loss 5 million dollars. etc... example if you wash your whole body but you forgot to wash your *CENSORED*, why washing ?? so buddy if you buy that property and they find minerial or oil your up the crrek with out a paddle. that person selling you the top of the property. he shall know something. our area is well in minerals ..
December 08, 2012 14:39:45 Observer   What? Sorry about the loss of your friend. It, of course, difficult to lose a friend. A couple of years ago we lost a good friend in a head-on collision in Walton near the town landfill. She will be missed. Especially since she was lost in a senseless accident involving someone passing a truck on a double line on a curve. But life is uncertain at best. God does not send a guarantee when we are born.
December 07, 2012 22:56:20 what?   The man who died in the car accident was a good friend of mine, though I haven't seen him in a few years. Went to school together and worked with him about nine years ago. He lived in Masonville for a few years. I don't think he was more than 34yrs old, and a real good person, someone who would help out anyone who needed a hand, helped me out once without even asking him, he insisted on it. Got along with anyone who knew him. It is only a rumor that it was a heart attack, I don't think it is known yet what happened. I totaled a car once by accidentally drifting off the road, I luckily didn't get hurt, but it makes you think. When something like this happens it makes you want to hold your loved ones a little closer and appreciate our short stay on earth. My thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.
December 07, 2012 22:45:47 bertimouse   AWESOME SHOW right now on PBS. Catch it while yall can!!!

December 06, 2012 18:22:47 Old Fa rt   What about hunting, how good or bad has it been. Any luck on catching the Big Bad Bear of MSV.
December 06, 2012 12:35:15 observer   Nice informative meeting last night, no arguing nor getting mad and walking out during meeting. Nice to see things are going smoothly again.
December 06, 2012 11:37:28 crzyflea   Observer, yes. I heard the call on the scanner. Young man had a heart attack while driving and hit a tree from what I have heard through the grapevine.
December 05, 2012 20:31:21 Observer   Heard that someone was killed in a vehicle accident here in Masonville today? Anyone hear that?
December 05, 2012 15:26:09 tax payer   see you all at the town meeting tonite

December 04, 2012 12:11:50 Observer   Let me see. Bush could of immediately leapt up and charged out of the building at top speed. That three minutes he kept on reading could have been spent sending the entire country into a panic. Or maybe he could have spent the time running in circles screaming "whatever shall we do". But instead he kept his cool and his head and let his advisors gather the information he needed to proceed on to the next step. The argument about the few minutes he kept on reading is perhaps one of the most obvious attempts at destroying the presidency I have ever heard of.
December 03, 2012 22:29:56 what?   what? would you suggest, scare the cra p out of the little kids? what? would Obama do, besides apologize to the terrorists? Obama said "America has shown arrogance…been dismissive, even derisive(Expressing contempt or ridicule, mocking)." I do NOT think that is a nice thing to say about our country. The majority has spoke? Yeah the majority of about one state, or 3.6% of the vote. Almost half of the voters, over 60 million Americans don't agree with you Berti. This election has shown America to be pretty divided, so does Obama want to work with the other half of the country? NO!,he has the same attitude you do "reform or you Will Be Done". Obama doesn't want to negotiate, it's his way only. Double the taxes he proposed, new stimulus spending, raise the debt limit to whatever they want without Congress being involved. King Obama thinks Congress should agree to allow him to borrow a unlimited amount of money, whatever he decides. Do you really think Congress should agree to this? There goes the Constitution.
December 03, 2012 20:09:18 bertimouse   A Romulan for pres wouldve wrecked more things than yall know.Say what you will but our current Pres never sat still reading to 5yr olds while our country was being attacked, burned and killed. Barry O spent his entire young life calling himself that because of reactions from guys just like You. The President and All those who support him will have their say this year because It Is For The Better Of The Whole,Not The Few,and guys like you whove been brainwashed by the Party Central should Get Used To This. The current Romulan Attitude will Lose All of your next elections for Congress and you all know it. Again;the Majority Has Spoken.Get used to it,reform or you Will Be Done as sure as a Turkey for Christmas. Nuff Said.
December 03, 2012 18:11:47 attn TK1   TK1>>FYI.property on rte 8 & Shear rd... possible number for Vincent D. number: 607-467-1422.
December 03, 2012 16:21:52 voter   looking forward to lots of new faces at the board meeting on Wed, 7:30. Always something to learn and questions to ask.
December 03, 2012 09:00:07 Old Fa rt   Am sooo glad, that I didnt voted for NOBAMA,now all that voted for it will cry.
December 02, 2012 20:59:17 what?   I'm paying more for insurance as a result of what has been put in place on Obamacare so far. The National Association of Manufacturers and National Federation of Independent Business, 69% said the current president’s policies have hurt their business. The Kaiser Family Foundation and the Health Research and Educational Trust report that between 2010 and 2011, family premiums increased by 9 percent and for individual premiums by 8 percent. Provisions of the law that have already gone into effect are driving up the cost of premiums, including requiring insurance plans to cover children up the age of 26 on their parents’ policies and requiring government-approved preventive care measures to be covered with zero cost sharing by all plans. Obama is going to cover the difference by printing more money I guess. You might not be scared berti, but I am. You might be close to retirement but I'm not, and I want to see this country succeed, I want to see jobs available for all, for myself and the future of my children. Obamaclaus is more interested in creating a dependent society. The money is already running out, eventually the welfare will too.
December 02, 2012 19:39:29 bertimouse   Not so What. Obama can Veto whatever he wants from Congress and will now...nothing to lose. Lets all Jump Off the supposed cliff to see what REALLY Happens,eh?Not scared Here And Never Will Be By Any Political Rhetoric,LOL they will NOT Tread On Me! The Health Care bill is saving Billions right now, dude, you just havent even researched any of it yet, have you?Why not learn more about it instead of learning less?Just a good suggestion because this Legislation is here to stay. Yes:Agree with you-let the HWY Dept take a day off without pay during a 12-inch snowstorm. TOM residents would be more supportive of our Hwy Dept after that, most folks have no idea how hard they work with the little they get from the TOM every year. Its not they that budget their money;its the TOM board.
December 02, 2012 17:45:53 TX-1   HELP! HELP!.Please does anybody knows the owner of the property on RT 8/Shears rd ,right on the corner across the street from the ice cream place,it has a for sale sign on it,but when call a recording says, this is a non working #. it also says ask for Vinnie.does anyone knows Vinnie? I have this freind that is interested on it.Thanks
December 02, 2012 17:16:11 Voter Too!   Dear Voter - Here, Here! I agree with you completely!!! People need to go to the meetings and ask questions to the people who have the answers....not post uninformed and anonymous guesses here...also, health care IS mandated as well as the retirement program by the State. All government employers are mandated by State law to participate in the NYS retirement program.
December 02, 2012 13:13:56 voter   Nice to see the message board to come alive again !! Do think it is a good idea for more to attend the board meetings then questions could be asked to right person and you could get correct answer instead of a guess.
December 02, 2012 12:45:48 think about it   What==== You do not think the hwy men should take a day off without pay? I should hope not, that would mean bad roads and no work for the rest of us because no one knows how to drive on a road with any snow on them!!!
December 02, 2012 12:34:24 what?   Your wrong Berti, if Obama had the votes to repeal ALL Bush tax cuts we still couldn't bring down the debt. For one Obama does not want to make any spending cuts, Obama wants to increase spending. Two, if the Bush tax cuts expire there will be fewer jobs to create tax revenue to support our bloated Govt. If we’re supposed to go back to Clinton-era tax rates because they were good for America, why don’t we simultaneously return to that era’s spending rates? Today Obama spends a $Trillion dollars more a year than the Clinton era. Instead, Obama wants to INCREASE spending!
December 02, 2012 12:22:55 what?   Actually What! Healthcare is mandated, Obama deemed it so, or pay a 'fine' ('tax', they can't legally call it a fine, they have to call it a tax). Obamacare is going to cost us all alot of $$ and cost the loss of alot of jobs.
December 02, 2012 11:42:49 Yes   What------ You are right the men should take a day off without pay, next snow storm would be a good time.
December 02, 2012 09:05:57 What!   Voter too they health care is not mandated it is included in the union contract that is up same as retirement. Wonder what kind of increase the employees will get. I have not heard of anyone getting a mandated retirement or health care. I say they should cut the health care give more copays to the employees jut like the rest of civil employees receive. no pay increase, has anyone heard of any state or federal agency that has given a pay increase? I know that state employees are mandated to take o day a month off without pay to cut the deficit why not cut at the town level. Voter too they are not mandated these benifits are given by the elected town board. Does anyone know who represents the town at the table with the union represenatives.
December 02, 2012 08:54:25 Voter Too!   Rather than wages, the Town had to go above the 2% cap because of mandated raises to health insurance and retirement. I did not hear about and wage raises when i went to the budget meeting.
December 02, 2012 04:50:37 Who!   Voter i do not think so remember they raised our taxes at the town and county level. Town board over rides the 2% tax cap to give out pay raises. Took money from our families how can we be happy? Wait till next year.
November 30, 2012 21:39:38 voter   Hope all will attend the last town board meeting of the year and things can be ended on a peaceful and happy note. I certainly was a very interesting year for all.
November 30, 2012 20:51:18 bertimouse   I Apologize to All Here for such a Long Post. Have a Great Weekend Everyone. And Hey a Big Hello to T&C: If here, then Big Hello from Here&would Love to see you here. Would Love to hear from you folks. Thanks&PL&H to the best of Friends and Family.
November 30, 2012 20:32:46 bertimouse   Oh b.s. what? The Facts are that the Reps are proposing MUCH LESS deficit reductions than the Deps. -what?no one is really negotiating in DC about & itll never happen, lol,is that ALL of the Bush Tax Cuts should expire for Everyone...if they did that wed reduce the deficit by 25-percent-get this-within 10 years! Were screwed no matter what-what? Dont care here no more,really-going independent Solar and Wind like my 2 brothers out West and say the hell with the World-sad commentary but am totally becoming residentially independent because no one but me and my neighbors will be caring for me once I get to be old. When Govt is Big or Small, means no difference at all to me now. Ive got my Solar Panels and Batteries now. Govt should help everyone making under $200K with tax breaks to be OFF THE GRID with Solar;but they dont&you know they never will because of the Crooked Lobby Money coming into both Parties about their own supposed Clean,Independent,Residential Energy. Yah its all bs. what. All they want to protect is their own Industry Profits.Right now in NYS you CAN be off the Grid. Right Now they should be training & teaching NYS inmates how to do some of the manufacturing processing -for the building&fabrication of Completed Solar Panels. It would be the type of training for these types of people that once they were released-they'd for Once be able to find a job or LOL start their own business?!? The Local Area Colleges are all focusing on Gas Fracting Technology...Which Ones are Focusing on Solar Technology in NYS yet? NONE. I can power my whole 1000 sq. ft. house with just 4 solar panels,a charge controller and one bank of 4 batteries that are Always being re-charged by Mother Nature. All OFF THE GRID&with NO State or Govt Agency Rebates or Tax Incentives...Cost? $5K. The Fact Is, for the price of installing a supposed backup generator where you have to scrounge for gas for the generator during an Emergency? You can install a solar off-the-grid system for your Whole House. Been there. Done This. So What?Dont care anymore except my SSI&Medicare thats coming to me when its supposed to.Worked ALL my life since age 12 so thats why I say God Help Them if they mess with that again.Id planned on 65,now its 67.What?Dont get me started here Im already mad as a cat thrown in water with a bunch of retriever dogs hunting ducks! But it was nice chatting with you neigbor.U R Good Folk,eh?:)
November 30, 2012 15:56:56 what?   Ready for four more years of job stagnation? Obama actually wants to go over the financial cliff. His offer has twice the tax increases that he ran on. He ran for reelection on a tax plan that would raise $800 billion.$1.6 trillion in new taxes. He wants a new stimulus, and they want a permanent debt limit that they control. Obama wants to be able to raise the debt limit to whatever they want without Congress being involved. Obama doesn't have the votes, he wants to plunge off the cliff. Even with the Obama's desired tax hikes, publicly held debt would rise by $7.7 trillion in 10 years under the President’s budget.A recent study by Ernst & Young noted that Obama's tax hike, far from being "balanced," would cost 700,000 people their jobs. And it will no doubt kill hundreds of thousands if not millions more jobs in the future as would-be entrepreneurs decide not to start businesses in such a hostile tax and regulatory environment.
November 29, 2012 19:47:07 bertimouse   Would like to first say here that this post regarding political spit will probably be disagreed by many folks-no problemo because-this is why Freedom Of Speech is Good-So here goes:the supposed \"Fiscal Cliff\" is nothing more than a Bungie Jump Yall and Congress should WAKE UP and realize that the People have already spoken and want a Bungie Jump!:) Congress needs to STOP USING SCARE TACTICS all the time- Seriously? Once again, dont they understand that We The People see through their continual scare tactics? If Congress even THINKS about proposing to raise-once again-the age limits for SSI and Medicare benefits they will ALL be voted out. We Remember and its Past Time now for the Rich to Realize a Reawakening while the Rest of us-98%reportedly-get back on our feet. Thank God for-my town,my country for not arresting nor berating me for speaking what needed to be said...dont tread on me congress-you will rue the day.
November 29, 2012 19:07:44 bertimouse   buck was on rte. 8 south towards Deposit
November 29, 2012 11:09:53 MV Resident   Just Seen a nice 9 Ptrn glazing the field behind the Ice Cream shop on Rt 8. and people say theres no deer on shears rd mountain. ???
November 28, 2012 19:52:36 Old Fa rt   Maybe it was a DEC decoy, trying to catch illegal hunters from the City / Jersey.just an idea.
November 28, 2012 07:56:24 MV LONG TIME RESIDENT   Where was the 8 pt buck grazing ???? on rt 8 ?? or rt 20 ?
November 27, 2012 23:06:10 bertimouse   620am while driving to work saw an 8 point buck just standing there on the side of the road;grazing.LOL! This Buck be a smart one, yes?
November 27, 2012 17:49:51 Old Fa rt   Grumpy, you are pass that like 10 years.LOL LOL.
November 27, 2012 17:44:02 Grumpy Ernst Keidel CDR.Keidel@gmail.com I am well into my twelfth year as a Masonvillain. How long will I stay considered an outstater?
November 27, 2012 10:01:06 Old Fa rt   When the season opens for outstaters? LOL LOL LOL.
November 27, 2012 08:36:44 MV LONG TIME RESIDENT   DEER HUNTING ON SHEARS RD SUCKS BIG TIME. NO DEER AT ALL. BUT MORE Jersey Folks and NYC Folks This year then ever. Have anyone notice that too .????
November 26, 2012 20:41:34 Old Fa rt   DEC keeps raising the price on licenses and hunters are getting less for more,I know this outstater and he paid 140.00 for a license, thats buck only,he said that years ago it was 50.00 but then it begun to go up,up,up.now it is almost impossible to go hunting, this may be his last year hunting. See this way the state will lose money,if hunters start stopping to hunt, because it is too expensive, but they dont care about the future of hunting or the game, they only care about making more money off the back of the hunting community. Coyotes ,yes way too many for what the area can hold,Deer population is down, some have to give.
November 26, 2012 17:56:21 what?   Where I hunt, after it snows there is more coyote trails than deer trails. Usually they are after snowshoe hares. I've been hunting for 22 yrs. and have never seen no more than one set of coyote tracks per hill, the past few years I see beaten paths of their tracks every 50 to 100 yards or so. Most hills usually have at lest one set of bear tracks also, and they love to eat fawns too. Six or eight years ago I never seen bear tracks.
November 26, 2012 17:45:27 what?   Whatever!, OK!, they all deserve egg on their faces.
November 26, 2012 08:36:42 Old Fa rt   Well,All I know is that I spend the whole weekend up in Artic by Shears and there was not single shot, there were hunters, but no deer, only saw a doe about 200 yards, running her *CENSORED* off,saw more Coyotes droppings than deers, that area upthere is dead, the Coyotes have taken over.spoke with a guy upthere,he told me he had seen a bunch of Coyotes, but no Deers. I think is time to go some other place,Shears is dry.
November 26, 2012 08:29:05 WTF   What happen to the deer hunting this year ??? On Shears rd. this past weekend havent heard not even a gun shot out there . I think theres no deers in the mountain. Any one knows whats going on ???
November 26, 2012 06:53:07 Whatever!   What? I stated all incumbants should have egg on thier faces. All parties
November 25, 2012 20:46:04 what?   The DEC says there isn't a big impact from coyotes killing deer. But they report on 20 radio collard coyotes 3 full grown deer killed and 34 fawns ( of which grow up to become full grown deer). The coyote population in New York during the Summer is approximately 20,000-30,000 according to DEC. Let's call it 25,000. According to DEC each radio tagged coyote kills 1.7 fawns and .15 adult deer. 3,750 full grown deer and 42,500 fawns killed by coyotes every year in NY. If we had a abundant deer population in Delaware county, why is the chances of getting a doe tag slim to none, year after year? Deer season is eleven weeks including bow and late muzzleloader, and if you buy a hundred dollars worth of tags you can shoot three deer, (if you just gun hunt, only one deer)and for a extra $ten (used to be free with sportsman license) you get a slim to none chance at a doe tag. Coyote season is twenty-six weeks long, you can hunt them day and night, and you can shoot as many coyotes that you want, no bag limit.
November 25, 2012 13:42:45 Observer   Insurance records indicate in excess of 63000 deer are killed on New York State highways each year. That is reported kills. Vehicles hitting and not stopping account for many many more. Coyotes account for less than 10,000 kills per year mainly the weak and sick. As to coyotes taking fawns, I am sure they would, but fawns have a natural defense against predators. The lay very still and do not move. Predators tend to depend on movement. If the fawn does not move it is likely a predator will walk right by them and never see them. In certain confined areas I am sure the coyote has an impact on the deer but as a general area probably not much at all. The carnage we humans do to wildlife is much greater than all the coyotes in the state. My wife drives from Masonville to Binghamton 5 days a week. For three years I had her keep track of the number of deer she seen along Interstate 88. During that time she counted a total of 1500. Some were so smeared and battered it was difficult to tell if they were deer or not. During the several years I have made a study of the Eastern Coyote I have not been able to come up with any evidence that they have made much of an impact on the deer herd in our area. If there is a shortage of deer ( which facts do not show ) it is likely from other causes than coyotes.
November 25, 2012 08:13:24 what?   I don\'t know, but would bet the proposed tax increases come from mandatory costs associated with Democrat controlled big business Unions, who strong arm our towns, counties and state (Unions who also fund the Democrat party with multi-$Billions$). $Pay increases, retirement increases etc. The cost of paying their healthcare is also going up significantly due to Obamacare, who do you think pays for this? All of us! Obamacare is the largest tax increase on middle income families in history!, and you say Republicans have egg on their face because of this?? The premium and the penalty are considered a tax,(the only way Obamacare could be legal and not considered Unconstitutional) the mandate is the largest tax increase in U.S. history
November 25, 2012 05:00:18 whatever!   what? remember all your local republicans have agreed to over ride the 2% tax cap and raise your taxes yes all the politicians who got re-elected and all incumbants should have egg on their faces and should reject all benifits they receive from the taxpayers until they do what we hired them to do. From town to county to state. We cannot afford any more increases and our town and county boards have failed the working taxpayer.
November 25, 2012 00:44:25 what?   NY DEC radio tagged 20 coyotes, and found out of 62 carcases visited, they only killed three full grown adult deer, full grown adult deer. Of the 20 coyotes watched, 34 fawns killed, were killed by GPS-collared coyotes. And I can step out side and hear three different 'packs' of coyotes, according to DEC an average low estimate 5 to eight a piece, within hearing distance (and I don't hear very good) 15 to 24 coyotes and many dead deer.
November 24, 2012 23:19:34 what?   MSN news; Asked by reporters what is needed to cushion the economic impact of the looming fiscal cliff, Obama declined to answer, saying "we're doing Christmas shopping." Woohoo, ain't you glad you voted for him when you can't afford Christmas,(this just in , tomorrow Obama has a special golf trip!woohoo!). Man, this is all Bush's fault!
November 22, 2012 19:25:37 Observer   The coyote population in NYS in the summer is between 20 and 30 thousand. In 2011 there were 60,000 hunters and trappers of coyotes. Unlike their cousin the gray wolf coyotes do not travel in packs. Coyotes travel in family units of the male and female and this years offspring. A family of coyotes can sound like many when they get to howling and barking. Interestingly enough one of their main food supplies is the road kill we humans leave behind in our travels. Coyotes normally will seek easier game than a white tail. But, they will attack and kill an adult deer if they so desire and need too.

November 22, 2012 13:16:58 Observer   In this state I believe any requests for use of meeting space in a "Town Hall" must be requested of the Town Board and approved by them. November 22, 2012 07:39:04 huh!   Ask the Mayor of Ivanhoe.
November 22, 2012 06:46:10 bad road   Person be careful you will be questioning the highway supertendent, Not a good thing to do in this town.
November 22, 2012 00:35:45 Person   Who do you have to bitch at to get a road name sign made properly??? it is Ivanhoe NOT Ivan hoe!!!!
November 22, 2012 00:27:05 what?   Ever wonder why there are so many deer hit in the road in the spring? Coyotes 'dog' them, chase um until they drop their fawns, and then eat them!! Deer have learned a easy way to throw of their trail is to cross roads, and sometimes they get hit. Go outside late at night and I hear THREE different packs by me, imagine how many there really are! Coyotes have no natural predators in this area, between anti hunter trapper, PETA type people, and the economy of Russia (big fur buyers), there is no trappers to keep them in check. Rabies becomes a concern now that, not only is there a coyote boom, but overpopulation of fox, coon, and many other species. If deer were overpopulated in the area, we wouldn't have hunters paying ten dollars a chance and getting two and three preference points for Doe tags, some still not getting any!!, spending twenty, thirty dollars extra, plus the hundred plus for resident hunting licensees!!
November 21, 2012 14:17:18 Observer   Confused - You mentioned a tough judge. Judges should be fair and unbiased. They should apply the law equally. Yes, a judge can treat a person in court in any fashion they want to and nothing much is going to happen to them but, they should not treat a person any differently than they themselves would want to be treated were they in the same situation. Many people view a trip to court to answer a ticket a major event in their lives. We have allowed our law enforcement and courts to act as they do. To view everyone outside their own circle as scum and automatically guilty is wrong. Over the years we have allowed our justices to adopt the attitude that they are beyond approach and above any civility. A justice has enormous power when exercising his or her duties but that is no excuse for it going to their heads or treating anyone unfairly. The idea that a person brought before the courts of the land are constitutionally innocent until proven guilty by a panel of their peers or a court is a lost fact in this country. The moment you are summoned you are presumed guilty and it is up to you to prove you are not. The very act of reading one their rights is telling them they are guilty of whatever act they are being accused of. Telling a person they can have a lawyer is telling the person you believe they are guilty. So, are you referring to a tough but fair judge or just a tough judge?
November 21, 2012 13:29:08 Confused   I had the occasion to visit our new Town Hall last evening. Nice building and a much improvement over the old Town Hall. Well, done board. But one thing did catch my eye I would estimate that at least half the space in the building is dedicated to the court. Judges Chambers. Nice large Court clerks office. Large Court Room. Conference room for the court. Well, it just goes to reinforce the town's reputation as the ticket and fine capitol of the county. Lots of enforcement and a tough judge guarantees a good income for the town each year.

November 19, 2012 20:06:09 Kevin Davie   I think we can blame Justin Bieber for all these coyotes.
November 19, 2012 17:23:22 Observer   Oh I agree that the coyote population should be controlled if they get out of hand. But, I think you will find that if our deer population is shrinking (if it is)it is because of the demise of our farms. Deer are borderland animals. They do not live in canopy forests (nothing to eat for them) and since the farming industry is declining; more and more of the land is going to heavy canopied forest. This of course drives the deer into areas where they are not wanted and the coyotes follow them. Coyotes being animals of opportunity will prey on any animal that means a meal to them. While I am sure they would attack and kill livestock, given the opportunity, it is pretty rare. I have heard stories of coyotes taking livestock but it is generally a "they said" sort of story. I have never actually talked to anyone who has lost any livestock to coyotes in this area. For a time after farms stop and the land goes to brush it is ideal for deer but in time that brush gives way to canopy. Dying farms and the "Forever Wild" act has driven deer to places they are not appreciated and generally to places that hunters cannot hunt.
November 19, 2012 16:56:30 Old Fa rt   I agree with you Observer, but what I said is , with the Coyotes coming into this area and the deer population been not that great here ,it is going to take a toll on the population,I understant about nature and all of that, but the Coyotes are doing a job on the Deers, too many Coyotes are not good, they will even go after house dogs and small kids. They do more damage than good.it population needs to be control.
