October 29, 2014 19:51:55 just thinking   I think we all should go to Nov. meeting and find out the truth, after all, rumors are just that ,rumors!!!!Pass the word to attend the meeting before the budget is passed, afterwords is too late to complain.
October 29, 2014 18:27:49 cabin fever   Hate to rant more but I wanted to state I do get GOOD inside info. if you wondered. Lets just say speak with an exboard member that knows and understands our budget way more than "long time resident" who must be totally dense in the head and is clueless with any finance decision. Also probably lives on a state road and could give a *CENSORED* about town road residents. Again just go to the meeting, ask questions, don't listen to the mentally unstable "long time resident" LOL!!!! PS:I'm not bertimouse
October 29, 2014 18:01:29 cabin fever   Got distracted with thinking of the long post from the steam mill resident and forgot the bottom line as rumor has it on the street. Simple: surplus to be sold was to create income to purchase a modern sweeper, an even wash with NO tax increase!!! Math: sold surplus income $50K,purchase sweeper $50K equals Zero impact on budget to my figures. I will attend the next meeting to get the real facts as should all of you.
October 29, 2014 17:50:49 cabin fever   Word at the local gossip store is all the mandated items bring our town over the tax cap, this is before the crew pay increase. Also word on the street is the board is forcing the sales of FOUR pieces of equipment(includes street sweeper) and no replacement sweeper, so dusty roads this next summer. All sales go to offset taxes,is it even legal to sell highway trucks to raise tax funds??? Is it even the job of the department to fund the budget??? Last thing, who wants the supt. of hwy. job anyway when you are the bad guy who wants a cost of living wage increase and keep above water. No raise for him or the crew would equal what, maybe 1% on the tax base? I have seen the budget and out of the $550K only 20% goes to roads. Like on your home budget will the whole check go to the car payment? Like said earlier go and ask questions at the meeting. Put yourself in the situation of hwy. supt. would you still give the public the same service if forced to sell needed equipment, what next, sell plow trucks to off set taxes???
October 29, 2014 15:55:20 EX Observer   P.S. Don't forget to get out and vote election day. Our problems are not here locally they are in Albany and Washington.
October 29, 2014 15:48:37 EX Observer   While $555,000 for road maintenance seems like a lot; in reality today's prices and wages makes barely enough I would imagine. I am no expert in road repair and maintenance but I would rather have a Road Superintendent who works alongside his crew for 40 hours per week, than having a Road Superintendent who comes in a few hours a week and never goes into the field. Which is what a lot of them do. I think our situation here in Masonville is somewhat unique in that we have an elected working Road Superintendent. As to the 2% tax cap; the state of New York knows very well that 99% of the taxing districts in the state cannot keep to that cap. Seems like our present Superintendent has saved quite a lot of money during his time in office and has cut some great deals on equipment for the town. But, like I say I am no expert. It would be interesting to hear what someone with knowledge of the job has to say about the present situation.
October 29, 2014 13:35:57 Long time Resident.   Voter what is really happening. The Town Board is in charge of the budget they receive a estimate from the Highway Supertendent they tweak the budget to try to stay in the 2% increase in accordance with state law. they give the Highway Supertendent the budget to work with and He must perform the duties of the highway Supertendent in accordance with town law. The Highway Supertendent has had a more than adequate budget to maintain our roads with over 550,000 per year more than enough to maintain our roads at a high standard, Which he does not do a very good job at. Now the Highway Supertendent is whining and complaining that the board will not give him more money to keep the tax cap at the 2% increase by law. Calling people to support his position and berating the town board members for not giving him what he wants. It is time to start looking for another Highway Supertendent who can work in todays system and not just throw money and threaten not to repair roads and not plow roads because he did not get what he wants. He has received another pay increase does not manage his men or his scheduling very well and really is crying wolf because he does not care about how much the taxes increase. I feel everyone who pays taxes should be at this meeting to really find out what and why the highway Supertendent needs more money and why he feels that there should be a substantial tax increase because he refuses to use the resources that are available to solve these problems and stop complaining about not having enough money and just do his job with what the board gives him as a budget. Mr. Smith trying to throw this board under the bus might cost you a election. Wake up Mr. Smith.
October 28, 2014 18:51:24 voter   seems like the board and supervisor really feel in control instead of the voters. Why not everyone show up to Nov. meeting and find out what is really happening.
October 28, 2014 09:53:07 Dusty.   I heard that the Highway Supertendent got another pay raise this year. Maybe he can donate that back and repair the sweeper and he can win another reward.
October 27, 2014 17:50:08 non dusty   Have heard that our town board and supervisor are telling the highway dept to sell the road sweepers and some other equipment to save money. Sure am glad I do not live on a road that needs sweeping next spring. Everyone will be eating dust !!!! Maybe all should go to the next meeting and see what is really going on.
October 22, 2014 06:40:32 Denis Burpoe   Craig is there going to be another meeting. I did not know about this until Tues. Would like to attend.
October 20, 2014 10:02:18 resident   is craig calling the meeting ? did mike break his arm ? really strange! not every one reads this message board must be serious
October 19, 2014 19:14:39 Craig DuMond   By Order of the Town Supervisor: There will be a special meeting of the Masonville Town Board on Monday October 20, 2014 at 7:30pm for the purpose of further discussions of the 2015 Town Budget and any other business that may come before the Board.
October 16, 2014 21:38:52 what?   Just wondering, is it true Masonville operates on the smallest budget in Delaware county? What do you complainers have for suggestions to bring down mandated costs? The way I look at it we should always elect the most Conservative candidates and hope they operate that way, are they? I don't go to meetings and haven't saw any meeting 'minutes' in a while so I don't know for sure. Hey it could be worse, uhBama could be running our town!Lol!
October 15, 2014 19:46:59 cabin fever   I would love to respond with, Lets let em get a new truck as the fire dept. just did,but what is the best tax savings???? I did hear that only one person from the public cared to show up for how OUR tax money was to be spent at the public budget workshop. All I'm going to say is we will all get what ever comes to us. If anyone cared, this was the meeting to prove it, don't whine on this board about trucks and roads.
October 15, 2014 13:13:49 Local Resident   Cabin fever do we want our roads fixed sure we do at what cost. We already have almost a 600,000 dollar highway budget and they cannot keep our roads up to snuff now. I bet that this year the highway will be seeking any where from 50 to 100 thousand dollar increase to repair more trucks. Do we and can we afford anymore tax increase's. Health care premium's are about to go up over 17% at the beginning of the year our highway crew has all there health care cost payed by the Masonville taxpayers and if correct we also pay there co-pays. Will the taxpayers have to accrue this increase or should the workers pick up this out of there pay as everyone else does. This is the only place that I have heard of that the taxpayers pay all the health care and co pays. We could save enough with the employees paying their fair share maybe rebuild another truck. Just thing out loud.
October 14, 2014 16:57:56 Wendy Oldham Heard there was a missing emu from Masonville area. One has been spotted, On Friday october 10 in Guilford, Oct 11, In White store cemetery in White store, Oct 13 on Shumway hill road, and today oct 14 on Medbury road south of Mt. Upton. it apears to be heading south toward Sidney.
October 14, 2014 15:56:31 what?   Frontier. They do a phone, high speed net (dsl) and if you want DishNet package one price. We pay $108 all together with the cheapest dish pack, but we are locked in. I think it normally cost $125. We bought a Roku for online tv to save money, it's only $8 month for each netflix, hulu plus, amazon prime, plus there is many free channels on the roku. Called Frontier when we bought it to drop dishnet and they said it would cost us more $ without it, so we just dropped it down to the lowest package. If you live in town they can get time warner cable, but I think their prices are worse.
October 14, 2014 09:21:30 New TO Masonville   I would like to know which Phone/Internet/TV services. around Masonville... Please advise.
October 13, 2014 17:02:19 Rob   Patrick, I believe it had something to do with nasa.i heard they wanted tp take a sample frpm the clouds.I saw it online a few days after i saw the bright light.I dont know for sure tho?
October 11, 2014 00:39:07 Patrick Callaghan   Anyone know anything about a UFO sighting in Masonville in November 2010? Someone mentioned driving through Masonville in November 2010 and seeing what they thought was a UFO (i.e. bright lights). I am wondering if anyone else saw this and if the mystery was solved regarding what the source of the bright lights was. Thank you.
October 07, 2014 00:46:09 I got the fever!   Yeah we need the roads fixed! They need to paint some lines on them, how we supposed to keep it between the lines driving home at night drunk if there ain't no lines!
October 06, 2014 21:32:24 cabin fever   Want your road fixed? Budget meeting 10/8/14 @ town hall. This is when the money is set for the road repairs for next year. Don\'t show then don\'t complain when your road is not fixed. Let them know roads are important!
October 04, 2014 05:19:59 local   Does anyone know where you can buy a hunting license without going to Wal-Mart.
October 01, 2014 08:27:13 what?   WOW! The State is actually doing something? Bout time, that will be twice this year they got caught working. On a Sunday, getting paid double time, good use of taxpayers money! Well maybe they were using some of that "free" taxpayer money. 206 is better, but I bet the craters come back this winter, all they did was skim coat parts and run a grader over it, no roller. Lets see how the taxpayer money holds up.
October 01, 2014 08:24:17 what?3   WOW! The State is actually doing something? Bout time, that will be twice this year they got caught working. September 30, 2014 13:34:41 Who?   Wasn't it great to see our state road workers out on a Sunday to make sure our roads were safe to travel. That what I would call a group of men who care about the taxpayers. They lead by example. Way to go state workers I hope people were paying attention.
September 24, 2014 14:35:03 taxpayer   Voter you had to go there had to use the jealous word.
September 24, 2014 08:51:14 voter   Mr. Smith must do a great job since no one every runs against him at election time. So what is every so jealous about, a man that does a good job for the town and knows how to save us money? If you think you can do better go to meetings and learn what he does so you know what you are talking about next time.
September 15, 2014 21:12:25 Reasonable   Mr. Smith works for the electorate...not the taxpayers or the board per say. Unless, the board member is a taxpayer and votes on a regular basis! HA!
September 14, 2014 05:51:42 long time resident   Taxpayer Mr. Smith does not realize that he works for the taxpayers. He thinks he works for the board.
September 07, 2014 06:32:10 Taxpayer   Cabin Fever all it takes is 1 person to run against Mr. Smith and yes unemployed. Why do you think they keep talking about how much he saves for. That in itself would make you wonder.
September 06, 2014 23:30:21 crzyflea   I really miss seeing the meeting minutes on the site here, or even the 'official' site. Will that be returning at some point?
September 05, 2014 15:36:53 cabin fever   So it's not really a job, just a hobby, if voted out go on welfare correct?
September 05, 2014 13:56:10 Local   Mr. Smith is a elected official. In other words he is a politician whom like all have a agenda. Is affiliated with a political party. Has a agenda related to that party and does what ever it takes to get himself re-elected. Mr. Smith is public figure and with that comes scrutiny and opinion's on his performance good or bad from the people. He's a big boy he can handle the pressure that's why he runs for office and supports himself with taxpayer dollars. I think the comments and debates are good for our society. As well as the community.
September 05, 2014 09:40:34 what?   Just to ad to your comment 'Proud Masonville Resident', correct me if I'm wrong, Masonville has the smallest budget in Delaware County, that says something also. Must be our elected are doing something right.
September 04, 2014 20:00:11 Proud Masonville Resident   The negative comments on this website make me sad. Chuck Smith has managed to provide a truck for the town comparable to a $260,000 truck for a fraction of that ($100,000) by purchasing a surplus truck and fitting it to the towns needs. This is something Chuck did for our town so that our highway department can continue to provide the services our town needs without taking out a bond to buy a truck or raising taxes. Chuck should be recognized for the good job he did. Remember Chuck was elected by the people of this time and this shows that he takes that responsibility seriously and that he truly does want to provide for our town without just asking the town board to provide a blank check. Thanks Chuck!!! Anyone who wants to know the story can read the article that is in this weeks Tri-Town News. Despite the comments made the $160,000 dollars saved isn't going to any politician it is staying in the pockets of each and every taxpayer in Masonville. Given the town budget is roughly $750,000 per year that would be an increase in our annual budget of more than 20% and it would have a huge impact on our local taxes.
September 04, 2014 05:59:27 WOW   What it's a ploy by the politicians campaign manager. remember it is election time and they have not done anything to protect or support the taxpayer in New York. Chris Gibson member of a lame duck congress who did absolutely nothing to protect the taxpayer as our deficit climbed to numbers that I cannot comprehend. But the only thing he supports is to destroy the safe act which I agree with look at his record in congress' Lost my vote. Yes what it is nothing but politics we saved 165.000 Our other republican buddy Tom Libos is spending that much of our tax dollars in white plains defending him self from corruption. Let's vote for him to. Now lets get to the biggest ash hole to date Prince Mario Cuomo. He ends up with a whole bunch of extra taxpayers money in a election year and cannot figure out what to do with it. He is just waiting to see who endorses him and they will get the money. Yes what it's politics. The one that get's me the most is this Astorino guy and Cuomo both under investigation for numerous violations of the law, What is this the new norm to run for office. Mr. Smith should be embarrassed that he let his good work be a pawn for the politicians who are lame ducks this election and needed anything to get them in the public eye. Yes What just politics.
August 29, 2014 20:35:40 what?   WOW, the town was recognized on a state level above all the other towns in all of NY state, and the "Town of Masonville was chosen as NASASP’s 2013 Associate Member of the Year because this story demonstrates the best use of the federal surplus program" "National Association of State Agencies for Surplus Property" THAT IS THE WHOLE USA!! OUR little town showed the best use of taxpayers money statewide and nationwide, you should be PROUD not dissing them. Boy, the strange reasoning of negative comments makes me wonder if these people even live on town roads, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they lived on state or county roads. The town road I take to work is in pretty good shape, even though I wish it had lines on it to make it easier driving on it in the dark rainy nights, but I can deal with it, nothing to cry about. Is it snowing on your side of town or ??? What's the problem, elaborate and let us know what road, might help.
August 29, 2014 18:09:05 Kunfused   Sounds like to me anyway that he is doing more than required, so why not get a gold star. Many posts ago the same gossip(on job duties) was the hot topic. Someone mentioned to look up the job duties and the chatter ended very quickly.
August 29, 2014 10:16:39 Roads Suck   My roads is alright but he can only spend what is given to him, I'll stay off your road.
August 29, 2014 10:13:39 cabin fever   Why get fired over saving thousands of YOUR dollars, don't get it from you two. Nobody told him to do this, so this was a bonus for our town. I would call it going well above the job requirements and duties that he didn't even need to do. Seems certain people have a lot of extra cash to pay high taxes. If he did what was required we would be looking at a bill for $228,000.00 new truck. Some people just get mad when it is not their idea.
August 29, 2014 05:59:03 Wow   I get Audit so you honor him for doing his job he would be fired in the private sector . What is this Kindergarten put a star on his chest. Roads still suck.
August 28, 2014 21:12:51 cabin fever   Not getting all of what Audit is writing I guess, must be the twelve pack he just finished. I take it he is happy???? But anyway a brand new truck for our town would be great, if we had the money. I'll call and tell him no more used trucks, put in for brand new. Oh I forgot the tax cap, oh well.
August 28, 2014 21:03:50 yeah!   I'm glad also as a taxpayer for this. The town next door is ordering a new truck, only with a cost of $228,000.00, glad to see Masonville is not hitting our wallets that hard!!!!
August 28, 2014 20:58:27 cabin fever   I did see a going on at the town sheds, must of been that. I do know of what you speak of, its great don't ya think? The board didn't ask for him to do that(because of no funds!) but a replacement truck was needed and who wants to see a tax increase. A great way to get a "new" truck for the town, hope to see more of this in the future. Savings like this may just bring back clean up days!!!!
August 28, 2014 10:33:52 Audit   I heard on the radio that some built a truck with taxpayers money and was honored for this, Did this person or person not get paid for this work? With tax payer money!
August 24, 2014 10:04:08 what?   We better start worrying about our once great country. This year for the first time in history the barrel of oil prices are no longer in US dollars. Around 20 countries have switched to Chinese currency when trading oil, even Austalia. This US dollar has lost its power in the world, our country is going broke. It is reported that with the new technology of natural gas fracking, and domestic oil we could be energy dependent by 2030, if we utililize the resources our country has. We have more energy resources in the US than all the countries we have given Trillion$ of dollars to that hate us, and some that want to kill us. More oil is bought by China right now than the US, GM exports more vehicles to China than they sell in the US. Most of the products we purchase are imported. We have the lowest number of people working in the US since the 1970s. It's time to start worrying and create jobs in the US.
August 24, 2014 06:55:27 Pondering   I hope they show how the schools systems are using propane buses saving the taxpayers millions of dollars. How over 90% of this propane is from the united states and is keeping people employed. How these buses use just 5w 30 oil and very little of it. How Sidney school just put in new boilers that run off of oil and propane as they will tap into this at about 0.45 gallon of liquid propane. Did I say how it creates jobs and keeps people off of social services. Did I say we need this in our community to help offset the tax base. How come we are not using the resources that we have but are buying oil from terrorist who want to kill us.
August 21, 2014 23:07:19 what?   In case you wondering, no I will not make $$ off fracking I only own 2.5 acres. But I will probably get a raise in pay just like everyone in every state that is drilling. I sure would like a raise in pay, and cheaper taxes and cheaper fuel costs just like the states that are drilling.
August 21, 2014 22:52:09 what?   Does anyone know what is the starting pay for McDonalds workers in Pennsylvania? ($10.35hr) Or the starting, trainee pay for Wal Mart workers in North Dakota? ($17-$20hr)!!! Why? What do these states have in common? Their states allow the people to utilize their natural resources, natural gas. The US is the Saudi Arabia of natural gas! NY, hell no, go on wellfare and cry poverty, pay higher taxes and cry poverty. We don't need the Govt. to tell us what minimum wage should be, it's obvious, let the private taxpayer secter dictate it, create jobs, create competition, and the market HAS to pay more to get workers. The only jobs the Govt. creates are the ones us taxpayers have to pay for. The Obama administration keeps saying we are out of the recession and have regained all jobs lost since he was elected. Meanwile we have the worst labor participation rate since the '70s. Obvious lies and fudging numbers. The unemployment rate in states that are drilling, ZERO! Just something to think about when you pay high prices for your gas for your car on your way to the meeting.

They also have a youth trap shoot program, Collect food for the food bank. What a great club and great member's.
August 07, 2014 17:40:02 Old Fa-rt   Any news about the Evil Masonville Bear ?
August 05, 2014 06:06:35 Taxpayer   Good to here, Now we do not need to discuss anymore. Let's get some Candidates and lets have a election. I think that this dog licensing should be something to be concerned about. Potential fines. No where to get a license. We need strong people in office.
August 04, 2014 22:04:54 cabin fever   Shears is paved,so nothing to worry about.
August 04, 2014 13:41:58 A Working Republican   Elections are coming I hope the town can produce a couple of Candidates to unseat the incumbent's. Look around is the town any bettor than the last election have you been represented at the County and State level. Has Sheer Road been paved. Let's talk to your neighbors and get some Candidates.
July 31, 2014 07:51:55 Rich   Hi everyone - Does anyone know someone local who does exterior house painting? I would like to get my house and trim painted before the cold weather sets in. Thanks!
July 22, 2014 13:24:59 Bud Hi I am looking for any info on mountain crest farm on parker hollow rd. I am looking to rent or rent to own a dairy farm. Any contacts or help would be wonderful. Thsnk you.
July 18, 2014 16:22:59 Kris   EX -- Thanks for the information! I guess Mother Nature just thought I needed an exorcism. It worked ;)
July 17, 2014 21:22:57 EX ObserverPIL   Kris - I have lived in this area or near this area for most of my 78 years and you are the first I have heard being bitten by either rattlesnake or copperhead. I recall that a person was bitten by a copperhead in the Roxbury area a number of years ago but you are the first I have heard of in this area.
July 16, 2014 18:18:27 Dog   Time for the masonville dog census again. 20.50 per dog seems kind of high, your D A M right. Don\'t waste your time or money they dont have the resources to chase everyone dog owner down. They have enough of are money already.
July 16, 2014 06:27:36 al resident   ex Observer probably us e the money on the roads.
July 15, 2014 13:55:46 Kris Hi folks, I have a question: Does anyone have any info about the frequency of snake bites in the Masonville area? Id really appreciate it. I was bitten by a pit viper on June 29th up in Steam Mill Forest. I must have stepped on the snake, 2 weeks in the hospital, sepsis and a crater in my leg-- still in wound care. I did something that I never do-- I wore shorts tending my seasonal property! Mother Nature gave me an exorcism. Any feedback is welcome, But I already know this. I should have cut the grass instead of picking daisies like a jackass!!!!
July 15, 2014 12:33:57 EX Observer   Animal license fees used to be used to compensate farmers for any damages done by dogs, etc. These days of reduced farms and the ceasing of the state run compensation program I would imagine that the local dog fees are pretty much used as the locality sees fit.
July 11, 2014 17:59:12 masonville dog owner   Time for the masonville dog cencus again. 20.50 per dog seems kind of high. I would feel better if I knew what this money was for and where it ends up. Also what about cats. I use to live in the center of town and masonville definitley has a cat problem.
July 09, 2014 05:39:45 tired   It was nice to see our state assembly turn down Delaware county's board of supervisors request for a bed tax. This would have effected hard working people who are trying to bring tourism into Delaware County. They would have used this money to give to the non-working entitled to free housing, food and utilities. This would have taken business from the hard working private sector working families as well as the money they have earned with no help from our county seat except for the permits they had to legally apply for. Please get informed and get out to vote the working person in Delaware County is becoming obsolete and poor.
July 03, 2014 21:16:03 what?   Saw some post pounders online, didn't know they made them. I bet they set posts sturdier than a rotory drill, let us know how you make out.
July 02, 2014 15:28:36 what?   Never seen a pounder, Horton hardware in Afton and Home Depot in Oneonta have rotory drill post hole diggers, can't remember if they are 3point though. Tractor Supply sells them (rotory ones).
July 01, 2014 13:06:37 Building Fence   does anyone know who rents post pounders? The type that mounts on a 3-point hitch and drives wooden posts in the ground?

June 26, 2014 23:37:57 ex-berti   Rob Astorino for Governor
June 25, 2014 11:40:16 EX Observer   I find it amazing, and disheartening, that every time some some horrible happening the knee jerk reaction is to "pass another law". This brings cries of outrage from either the left or the right. Within a few months it is all forgotten and society is back to its usual "*CENSORED* hum" existence. Look at the "investigations" going on about the IRS? The IRS is one of the most powerful organizations in the country and can bring terror to the average citizen with just a letter or telephone call. The representatives are calling all sorts of witnesses before "congressional panels" and the representatives are showboating for their constituents back home. Within a few months it will be business as usual on Capital Hill. How do I get reelected? How do I mine this gold mine? We have, probably, the most inept and corrupt president since U.S. Grant and all we can do is wring our hands and cry "woe is me". In our own state our Governor is probably cheating the taxpayer out of money in his own dealings with taxes etc. " Everything said and done, at the end of the day, we get the government we deserve and deserve the government we get." ~ P. Ramakrishnan. While it is claimed that Hitler banned gun ownership in Germany it is not so, but, it certainly is getting to be a true statement in New York State.
June 24, 2014 17:14:47 what?   At town board meeting;"Resolution # 11- Opposition to the New York State Safe Act (right to bear arms)" "So moved by Craig DuMond, seconded by Betty Scott, all in favor carried.",,, Supervisor Mike Spaccaforno said the County passed a resolution in Opposition to the New York State Safe Act. This is the law that Gov. Cuomo had passed that would turn tens of thousands of legal gun owners into felons if they do not register specific types of rifles. This law also mandates that all the Counties keep records and must do background checks every five years on all who register. The Counties will not be compensated monetarily for any of these changes. (another unfunded mandate from the State)",,,, “We do not advocate violence, but do stand for non-compliance to laws that take away our rights,” said NYR coordinator George Curbelo at a forum at the Delhi American Legion, hosted by the NYRevolution with many guest speakers including Senators, Congressmen, and law enforcement. At the forum; “I’m disgusted that our rights have been stripped away,”Undersheriff Craig DuMond said angrily. “Law enforcement is designed to uphold the constitution.”,,, Craig DuMond has been in the news many times in the last year, along with hundreds of other Sheriffs and Sheriff associations speaking against King Cuomo's unConstitutional un'SAFE Act'. Even after having their jobs threatened by King Cuomo.
June 24, 2014 11:58:01 local resident   what explain how they have stood up for our rights.
June 24, 2014 06:56:11 what?   Belittles our town? Humm, coulda fooled me, I thought there was many on this site that defend our great town. I'm sure there is unhappy people in most towns. Our town is in much better shape than our Country, at least our town officials stick up for our rights in this used to be 'free' Country.
June 23, 2014 09:32:54 resident   I am impressed how inactive this site has become . I guess the people realize how this site belittles our town. good work
June 18, 2014 11:45:15 Grumpy Ernst Keidel Was anyone awakened by that loud, freaky storm last night? The winds snapped off my flag pole!

May 28, 2014 11:00:20 Local resident.   Resident the big question should be how Supervisor Pigford from Sidney had major concerns over the process that his constituents had brought to his attention he also questioned the SEQUR report that no one had. This is related to the impact it would have Hamlet of Sidney Center. All but one Supervisor blew him off and voted for the project without hearing his concerns. It is apparent that Wayne Reynolds gets what he wants.
May 27, 2014 20:21:48 resident   Hancock super who chairs the boards public works committee indicated that the decision and the project be completed by Sept. 30 very interesting who and where is this building and its salt shed going to be built . who is going to pay for it? any comments ? that is what this site is, for free speech
May 27, 2014 20:11:04 resident   here is a quote from last weeks Walton reporter "responding to criticism that the county was trying to protect its highway garage at the expense of its residents. Reynolds said he hopes to eliminate the garage, entirely, perhaps through an a agreement to share space with the town highway dept. in Masonville.
May 25, 2014 05:47:48 confused?   What! you must have been at a town board meeting. Ha Ha
May 23, 2014 09:55:28 what?   I heard a puppet and a teleprompter showed up and no one noticed the difference.
May 22, 2014 08:09:07 local resident   I hope that there is a massive turnout to Honor our Commander and Chief President Barrack Obama today in Cooperstown. What a great honor for our communities to have the president in the area.
May 13, 2014 12:10:13 resident   what are the towns plans for memorial day ? is it true that there will be no marching band this year?
May 08, 2014 21:24:31 Craig DuMond   Pastor, I couldnt agree with you more. Our local volunteers in the Fire Department and Emergency Squads are unsung heros! They quietly put in countless hours of training, maintain required certifications and show upwhen we need them!!! They deserve the communities support, encouragement and prayers!
May 08, 2014 10:27:51 Local Pastor   Kudos to our Volunteer Fire Dept. Rapid and organized response to the dwelling fire at Jack Briggs' home on Route 8. Intelligent and sound decisions by the incident commander. We should be thankful for the work and effort our VFD puts forth to protect us. I was a Volunteer for over 40 years in several departments including a very large on on Long Island. I served not only as a Fire Fighter but a EMS and Department and County Chaplain and was a member of the Fire Chaplain's Association. I appreciate our VFD here in Masonville.
May 07, 2014 08:19:58 what?   What a heartening story John, thanks for sharing it.I don't know how hard the fight was to keep Camp Brace open, but as a afterthought maybe the fight to keep it's doors open should have included all the success stories like yours, and I know there must have been many of them. I know when I was in school in the '90s there was still a Masonville farmer,Sidney School teacher that took in at least one Brace kid, he even went to Sidney School and came to visit after graduating. The Sidney Boys and Girls Club also had a lot of fun playing basketball games with them. It is a shame the State shuts down good programs like that and wastes $Billion$ on *CENSORED*.
May 06, 2014 14:07:19 John Hartney 50 years later...Thank you Masonville and Sidney! While writing my memoirs Camp Brace came to mind. I arrived at the age of 14. Not as a criminal, but a youth that needed direction and routine. Not happy with my home situation I found running away was my only option. That was, until the State got involved. Camp Brace had no towers with guards, fences with barbed wire, not even locked doors. We were not criminals imprisoned for crimes. It was designed to prevent youths from becoming criminals. We worked hard clearing the forest for fire lanes and roads throughout the area. Axes, bow saws, and log carriers were our daily tools for 8 hours.(No power tools) We would get paid $2.50 (Per Week) for our services. Schooling and counseling were also part of the daily routine. We were able to attend movies in Sidney as well as dances. Which my suede Beatle Boots were a big hit as we danced. A few were chosen to assist local farmers with chores on their farms. We attended church with them as well. One of the farmers had allowed one youth to stay with his family once he was discharged from the camp. I had two successful careers throughout out my life. The Navy, which I also volunteered and served a year in Vietnam. General Electric I was promoted and held many responsible positions throughout the United States. I attribute my success too Camp Brace, Councilors, Communities, and the State of New York for supporting its Youth. Programs such as Camp Brace do work. Again..Thank You...John Hartney
May 04, 2014 23:32:39 what?   EX Observer; with the majority of all NY Sheriffs and Sheriff Associations publicly, on record being against Cuomo's un'Safe Act', including our own, and the majority of all Counties in NY (80% to date passing resolutions against Cuomo's un'Safe Act') also against it, I am confident that the free citizens of our state believe in our Constitution, and Cuomo has made his bed, and will have to sleep in it come any election he ever faces in his future.
May 03, 2014 06:44:46 out of towner   Ex Observer thank you for the input. I have been there after 5 found out today that She moved and is only available 1 hour a week on Wed. at the Town Hall. Doesn't work for me. I going to see if I can go to the county clerk to get what I need. Thanks again.
May 02, 2014 12:24:32 EX Observer   I note that the Cuomo Storm Troopers took down the list of banned weapons. Why? So they can add to it as they feel like it? REPEAL NYS SAFE ACT
May 02, 2014 12:21:33 EX Observer   Out of Towner - I think she is only available after 5 PM at the house where you saw the sign.
May 02, 2014 06:00:37 Out of towner   Does anyone know where the town clerk lives. the sign is on steam mill road but nobody's home. went there twice. I looked at the town hall there is no sign there,
