Febuary 03, 2015 18:22:35 tax payer   Masonville resident, you are right we do live in a nice community. It is nice to see that neighbors help each other, esp. during this last snow storm.
January 30, 2015 18:58:58 Masonville resident   Everyone should just be happy to live in such a quiet town compared to many in NYS. All look out for each other and are willing to help in case of emergency, our firefighters and EMS, what would we do without them? Why not start the year out right and see the good in everyone and everything.
January 29, 2015 12:11:41 what?   EX Observer, one of the reasons we keep ending up with bad people in Govt. is I know many voters vote for what they feel is the least of the two evils. "this ones not as bad as the other one." for their own reasons that may be debatable by the ones who are voting for the other candidate they feel are 'the lesser of the two evils.' Your right about the money, Obama spent over a half a Billion dollars more than McCain in '08 to win. Leaves the normal every day honest folks out of the running. Gas prices? Can be summed up just by the fact that a gas station can be across the street from another and charging 10cents more a gallon, and you will still see people pumping gas there. I see people putting gas in their tanks everyday in Masonville, and you know they are not confined to our small town, they drive by pumps in other towns everyday. Gas tanks are not limited to what one can hold before they go to work or shopping. You can't blame Mirabito's for accepting what people are obviously more than willing to pay.
January 28, 2015 18:16:03 EX Observer   RE: Highest gas prices in the county. The Post Office has nothing to do with the prices at the convenience store. You can blame that on one of the areas premier families. The Post Office nor the US government has nothing to do with the building it is in other than leasing the space.
January 28, 2015 17:57:39 EX Observer   When are the voters of this state going to realize that it is time to clean out the nest of rats running the state of New York? I doubt there are 10 honest politicians in the entire assembly or senate. And the chief being the mobster in the Governor's office. A politician of many years ago by the name of Dickenson (a senator from PA) was asked what sort of politician he was. And he replied, " The best money can buy." This accurately describes the vast majority of crooks representing us in Albany. I believe this quote, in one form or another, was also used by Will Rogers and Harry Truman. We continue to elect them and complain about them. Albany has been a nest of vipers that would put Tammany Hall to shame. Speaker Silver has been the subject of one crooked deal or another since he took office some 15 or 20 years ago. Come one folks it is time to do some house cleaning in any way we can.
January 25, 2015 07:14:29 Parker Hollow road   Well local it is clear that the Historian does not use the office. What a waste of money. The Town Clerk doesn't even have hours at the building. It's time to get out and get some candidates to run for town board. Masonville needs to get out of this stagnet place that the locals on the board what it to stay at. It' like driving through the twilight zone in this town the same mentality as the 70's nothing has changed more welfare in the community. Our post office is leaving gas prices in town highest in the country and our board complains about un funded mandates. I willing to bet that our board has no idea how much the local taxpayers spend in unfunded mandates. But they are fast to use it as a excuse to blame for our tax increase's. Let's get some candidates who are open minded self starting and driven to find out what is really needed for all the taxpayers in Masonville. Let's get rid of the historian office that is a unfunded mandate that we can do with out.
December 28, 2014 07:15:47 local   jerry you do not have office hours at theew town hall and new historian office?
December 26, 2014 19:04:58 cabin fever   How can you not ask for a raise, otherwise you fall backwards with inflation.
December 24, 2014 16:37:20 what?   How high is taxes going to go after the minimum wage increase. Unions and Democrats are pushing for fast food workers and walmart to pay $15hr. I bet the TOM workers will be asking for a raise, I know everyone I work with will. Zero net gain.
December 23, 2014 19:52:25 Jeri Brayman Mormon Hollow Farm   265-3769 town historian
December 23, 2014 14:16:47 EX Observer   I too do not care for a raise in the taxes but I realize that in order to maintain the level of services that realistically there must be an adjustment to the tax base. Everything costs more than it did last season.
December 23, 2014 05:08:08 XXXXX   Ex -Observer does all that change the fact that your taxes have been increased by our town board again. Ba Fu---n humbug
December 22, 2014 17:47:08 EX Observer   To Democrat's, Liberals & Progressives Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2015, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere. Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the recipient. To Everyone else. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year of our Lord.
December 18, 2014 13:56:22 local   If correct Jerry should have hours at the town hall on route 206. Phone number is 607-265-9249
December 17, 2014 16:43:08 EX Observer   Jeri Brayman is the town historian.
December 17, 2014 14:58:15 Warren Brooks wbclomocm@gmail.com I am a family historian/genealogist and would like to get in touch with your town historian. My ancestors lived in Masonville in the early 1800\'s. I\'m hopeful of getting in touch with someone who may be able to give me help with searching some of my family history
December 15, 2014 20:24:09 someone   the highway crew probably did know that people need to get to work, after all no one plowed for them to get to work so they could clear roads for you to go to work. Think about it, they too have kids and they too work.
December 09, 2014 05:25:31 long time local   I can't wait to see if our great highway dept can stay on top of the storm. I also hope that they remember that if there is no school the people who pay their salaries ie the taxpayers need to get to work and home again. Let's see what you got boy's.
December 08, 2014 15:37:53 what?   I think everybody is waiting for word on un'Safe Act' part two.I haven't heard anything either. You can read about the proposed laws on SCOPENY.ORG I haven't updated myself in a while but I know some of the laws were just plan dumb. I know one of them was if you own a gun it must be locked up if your not in immediate possession of it. And mandatory insurance for gun owners, I pay enough for insurances already. SCOPE has a State Police field guide to 'Safe Act'. There is more to it than I knew.
December 08, 2014 05:50:13 Wow   What have you heard anything else from our representatives on how they are coming along with the safe act. I have been following the process and as I stated nobody has dne nothing since the elections. Do you have any info
December 04, 2014 12:08:10 Wow   What! if correct this all happened pre election ?
December 03, 2014 18:05:31 what?   What more can they do when we are outvoted by low information voters who care nothing about the Constitution and our freedoms? They vote for whoever has the most money for negative campaigning.
December 03, 2014 18:00:55 what?   WOW, look it up, our town board publicly spoke in opposition to the safe act in the minutes some time ago. Its been in the newspapers since the passage of the bill. Some clips; Delaware County Sheriff Thomas E. Mills along with Undersheriff Craig DuMond are asking for the Delaware County Board of Supervisors to support them as well as the NYS Sheriffs’ Association in opposition to Governor Cuomo’s NY SAFE Act.Seward also spoke about a bill before the state senate to repeal “Cuomo’s ill-conceived gun control” law while keeping intact the provision in law which mandates life without parole for anyone who murders an emergency responder. Seward warned, however, that “a repeal is a long process and will take years.” “The NY unSAFE Act does nothing to solve the problem of violence,” Seward added. “It is only onerous restrictions placed on our law-abiding citizens who rightfully own firearms. As a legislator, I’d rather write laws that come down tougher on violent criminals and that treat the mental health problems.” Delaware County Sheriff Tom Mills concurred, noting that “The unSAFE Act does not address the bad people who use guns for violence. … We need meaningful answers. We need to vote for and elect officials who work to change the mental health issues our country is dealing with now.” NYR Coordinator Gia Arnold prompted the audience to take action. “No more sitting in our comfortable houses,” said Arnold. “We can talk to our neighbors and campaign.” Congressman Chris Gibson, R-Kinderhook, reminded the audience that “The Founding Fathers brought forth the Constitution and the document has withstood the test of time. We will fight to be governed by the Constitution, not the state. A limited but effective government is what we stand for.” Referring to a recent public comment by Cuomo that conservatives could leave New York if they didn’t like it, Gibson said, “We are not leaving New York. We will vote and we will vote for the rights of everyone.” “I’m disgusted that our rights have been stripped away,” Delaware County Undersheriff Craig DuMond said angrily. “Law enforcement is designed to uphold the constitution.” Assemblyman Pete Lopez, R-Schoharie, told the audience that, “We are at ground zero. … It is time we rouse from our apathy and focus our energy,” adding, “This is our America and we will take it back.”
December 03, 2014 16:52:54 Wow   Thank you
December 03, 2014 12:40:20 what?   They've done more than you or I have.
December 03, 2014 03:19:14 Wow   Re-phrase What! have they done to help insure that we will get our rights back (SAFE ACT)in accordance with the constitution.
December 01, 2014 12:48:22 EX Observer   I see the "so-called" protests are still going in the St. Louis area. Must be they have not gotten all their Christmas looting finished.
December 01, 2014 12:36:26 what?   The Constitution.
December 01, 2014 09:22:07 Wow   What! does that have to do with the safe act.
December 01, 2014 08:20:59 what?   They shouldn't have to 'go after' the Governor. The same with the house and senate, they shouldn't have to 'go after Obama'. If those two idiots followed the Constitution, instead of treating it like toilet paper we could get something constructive done in this country. Right now the USA has the lowest labor participation rate in 35+ yrs. And NY is not a good place to live or do business.
November 30, 2014 05:58:07 American   What! are you talking about the safe act. Besides using it as a topic of discussion for their elections along with Gibson and others, They have not accomplished much and they likely will not. It is apparent that they are not committed enough to go after the Governor.
November 27, 2014 00:05:18 what?   Thanks Craig, thank you for all you've done for TOM (thanks also Mike), and thanks for all you've done for NY state with your stand on the un'Safe Act' Your a good American. And thanks to all and every good American(and those who legally want to become Americans) Happy Thanksgiving!
November 26, 2014 23:55:21 what?   C J C, there are plenty of people that do this, plowing. But if you don't find any George walker in masonville from walker concrete plows. I don't know him personally just know he plows and has a phone number in the book. Good luck with the hunting! I haven't seen anything shootable yet, except for a bear that only gave me two seconds, his lucky day.
November 26, 2014 22:05:18 Craig DuMond   Happy Thanksgiving Masonville...I wish all a blessed day!!!
November 26, 2014 19:07:11 C J C   I need plowing service.. In Masonville ... Can some one froward me to a guy who does this kind of services.... I would like to enjoy the rest of the hunting season. Thanks.
November 22, 2014 10:47:34 Old Fa rt   Where have all the deers gone ?
November 21, 2014 13:19:16 Local taxpayer   Don't stress about spilled salt What. They will just increase your taxes again.
November 20, 2014 09:20:48 what?   !!! Just read in Mich. there is a 46% increase in price of road salt this year! I hope TOM has what they need!!! And the state/ county.
November 15, 2014 20:37:56 Olg Fa rt   not many hunters/shots in woods today
November 13, 2014 09:34:49 life time resident   kunfused - please speak for yourself. Not everyone hates Chuck. Thanks Craig for last post, it is nice to hear that someone on the board is behind Chuck. Keep up the great work Chuck and thank you for helping save the me and the taxpayers money!
November 13, 2014 07:48:29 Craig DuMond   In my opinion Chuck has done an outstanding job as superintendent. He is a full-time superintendent, which is virtually unheard of in our area, and works right along with then men all day long. As highway committee chairman, I can also attest that Chuck works more than 40 hrs per week most weeks and receives NO overtime. I have received many calls from Chuck nights and weekends where he is in the shop completing required paperwork or diligently searching for the best price on a required product. He always goes the extra mile to get the best price with the taxpayer's interest in mind. His leadership with the crew in completing in-house maintenance of our equipment, providing in-kind services for the town hall, building our pole barn, etc. has saved the town hundreds of thouands of dollars. Selling equipment we no longer need, creating a revenue stream to drive his budget down, etc are all things we as taxpayers should be appreciative of. Instead of berating this public servant (again, with qualities rarely seen today in the public sector) we should be shaking his hand in gratitude!!!
November 12, 2014 22:28:47 kunfused   One good point made by our Town Supervisor at the meeting was the original tax increase was to be close to 13% but the Hwy. Supt. was to sell trucks to drop it to 5%. So the Hwy. Supt. saves us a huge tax increase and everyone on this board hates him and the crew, I'm Kunfused!!! "Time for a change"....really??????
November 11, 2014 22:41:54 cabin fever   Sounds like you went to the meeting??? I heard a similar version of the comment of what the shop time was, the board member was asleep during the report I hear. Word got back to the crew and they are so thankful that he sees what is done to save tax dollars, LOL! How would it look if our town trucks went out for simple repairs and get prepared for winter when it can be done in house. We need board members who will work with the crew, not against them. I heard "that" board member wants to be the next hwy. supt. and then things will be just perfect. I take things the way they are now before the "change" and taxes skyrocket by hiring everything out. We will see what is in the minutes when they are out to see what was missed
November 10, 2014 11:48:19 resident   Cabin fever I would agree to cut services we do not get much or expect much from this crew. WE CANNOT AFFORD A INCREASE IN TAXES AT THE TOWN AND COUNTY LEVEL. The stewards of the taxpayer money(ie. elected Officials) have failed us. We need Elected people to do the job and not at the very least go over the 2% increase allowed by law. And also kudos to the board member that asked what the highway crew does in the shop all day.
November 08, 2014 01:21:05 what?   "chaws tabbaca and uses words of only one syllable?" Ha,Ha EX Observer, I've heard many truck drivers claim they must have invented the tooth brush in Brookfield, otherwise they would have called it a teeth brush!
November 07, 2014 18:13:04 EX Observer   P.S. Who is not a local running the town? I have often wondered what the definition of a local is anyway. Is it someone with only few teeth, body odor and a 3rd grade education, chaws tabbaca and uses words of only one syllable?
November 07, 2014 18:07:43 EX Observer   "rather see them lay off some" ?? If the town laid off "some" who would be left? Everyone complains about wages of town workers. I have an idea. Those who are complaining about them being overpaid can volunteer to have their own wages cut 10% and we can give that to the workers instead of a raise. That way, no tax raise for the rest of us!! Do you honestly feel that town workers should only get minimum wage?
November 07, 2014 14:26:53 cabin fever   Must be you don't live on a TOWN owned road, you say lay off personal so I would have to guess you live on a State or County road. Mandates are a true story, if this is a problem then go to the State level to complain. Think about the next mandate we all will pay for, it is minimum wage increases. Great for those workers but we all will pay for higher cost of services and goods because of this. The working class that is not minimum wage will not get a 10% increase so will fall behind in inflation level. The highway crew, under contract, will see 3%. Simple math will show you this debit ratio will be less cash in the wallet. Would you like a pay cut? Lets not nickel and dime our town services as we wouldn't want this ourselves. Do we want minimum wage guys plowing our roads? Wouldn't find a CDL driver for under $20.00 per hour anyway. Lets give up wage talk, its not the solution anyway.
November 07, 2014 13:57:44 long time Local Resident.   Cabin fever blaming mandates every year is getting old. I would rather they laid some off. I cannot afford another tax increase. Be nice to have some locals running the town.
November 07, 2014 13:13:49 cabin fever   Town raises didn't mater this year for the cap. If pay raises were froze this time all the other mandated items drove taxes above the cap anyway. I need to get my job back in LI and live the good life.
November 07, 2014 06:56:41 what?   Minimum wage earners will, $1.75hr by next year, and they are pushing for another $6.00hr more.
November 07, 2014 04:59:33 Long time resident.   How nice was it we are getting another tax increase more than likely over the 2% cap same at the county level, Did anyone get a pay raise this year.
November 06, 2014 13:22:33 CJC   Pat, I tried to get you a message about the land your selling, and just couldn\'t.please call me @ 201 317-8893.TXZ CJ.
November 06, 2014 08:23:34 me   Nice board meeting last night
November 05, 2014 15:51:09 what?   Pat, I would try ad on Craigslist Oneonta, its free and you can add pics and lots of people look it over. Also Pennysaver in Sidney, cost a little but you would have a good chance of getting a bite.
November 05, 2014 14:33:30 Pat Beliveau   Property for SALE. I am currently the owner of a .61 acre lot located on Pine Hill Road in Masonville, NY. Great hunting property, adjacent to State land. Assessed value is $3,230.00 willing to sell for $3,000. If interested please contact me via e-mail at PatB_Brassmenalumni@yahoo.com
November 03, 2014 15:42:48 what?   Don't forget to vote tomorrow, the choices aren't the best, but I'm voting Astrino, I can't vote for King Cuomo Hitler, who wants to implement unSafe Act Two.
November 02, 2014 18:04:39 former resident   Just show up at meetings and ask questions and get the correct info. Next meeting is Wed night at 7:30 should be a full house, it not, no one should have any complaints
November 01, 2014 19:41:50 not rich   Just like has been said before on this board, no one cares what goes on so why not raise the taxes and make life easier for the town. If anyone cared they would show up at meetings and know what is up. A few extra tax dollars will not hurt anyone to pay.
November 01, 2014 10:29:47 WOW   WOW!!!! All this chatter and not one of you will show up for answers at the meeting.
November 01, 2014 10:25:10 cabin fever   I guess it does look that way because I DO live on a TOWN road, not state or county roads. I do read meeting minutes and see the work completed other than paving and see when paving is done that $150K is spent in two days work. So the rest of the budget has to be rationed out for other work. All I can say is if needed equipment is sold then no mater who is in charge how is the job going to get done, fat or skinny. As far as him throwing the board under the bus by calling people I spoke with him the other day and that is not true. He told me he was upset to sell needed trucks and only called ONE person, after talking to her he decided not to call anyone else, just let what happens be out of his control even if it is law to clean roads. I guess he obviously will know who is speaking bad of him since only one call was made. Overall I don\\\'t want taxes to go up but if it benefits the ones who live on an actual town road that makes the difference.

November 01, 2014 09:33:15 TOM   300lbs? Take another look, closer to 400lbs.
November 01, 2014 08:22:45 another taxpayer   Maybe the board figures the only way they are going to get a honest forty hour week of actual work out of them they had to get rid of some equipment. Maybe they are going to give the road crew push brooms to do the roads, they sure do have time. What do they have 50 or so miles of road to take care of? Most of it paved? Should have plenty of time to sweep it by hand, what else do they do all year? It would probably be good for their health also, they are all very obese, got to be over 300lb each! Who pays their health insurance, disability? They should take better care of themselves.
November 01, 2014 07:04:12 Tired of paying taxes   Cabin fever do you only read what you want and speak on only what concerns Mr., Smith what does it state about maintenance of roads and ditches, Pot holes. He has the equipment to repair and maintain the roads and he doesn\'t do much of that either. Please quote for the board what the law states.
October 31, 2014 18:04:27 cabin fever   Just found out highway law reads that roads are to be kept clear of loose stone, debris and other such items. Looks like the board is going to push Smith out of office by taking away the required equipment to do the job. If he is upset I can see why.
October 31, 2014 11:22:18 reader   Must be the board is concerned about raising taxes for no reason. If anyone in town cared how high their taxes are they would attend the budget meetings. So, raise taxes and get some money to run our town the right way >
October 31, 2014 11:02:36 EX Observer   Voter - Back when the present Road Superintendent took the office; the desire, of the Town Board, was to have a man who would work 40 hours a week along with the crew. (There was quite a bit of discussion about that matter right here on this board at the time.) They felt it better with that arrangement than having a separate Superintendent. I do not think anyone was misled. If we did not have the arrangement we now have Mr. Smith would still be in the position he held before taking the office of Superintendent and we would have someone else serving as Superintendent. Thus adding another to the highway staff. As I stated in my earlier post there is no law requiring a person in the office of Highway Superintendent to work any specified number of hours per week. If you check the laws (look up Section 140 of the NYS Highway Law) concerning that office you will find that the position is actually totally independent of the Town Board in almost every way. I am not familiar with the present problem of a road sweeper thus I will not comment on that situation except to say sweeping rural roads would be way down on any list of priorities I might have.
October 31, 2014 09:19:44 cabin fever   Long time resident said he needs to use his resources, but it sounds like the board is taking away the resource to do the job. Sounds like he is being pushed out of business and is forced into a situation of no choice on the getting the job done.
October 31, 2014 07:43:03 kunfused   Question: if he is really not required to work with the crew then this means add another worker? How much will this increase my taxes???? Or should we let this continue to save tax dollars. Someone needs to check the law on this or our town could be in for State fines and violations if he is in the wrong.
October 31, 2014 05:46:08 Voter   Ex Observer I thought that I was voting for a Highway Supentendent which is a manager, I did not realize that I was voting for a highway worker. Boy I was misled at the voting booth.
October 30, 2014 22:16:41 kunfused   \"long time resident\" has a point on highway department waste. First they waste our money putting up flags, mowing cemeteries, working on buildings and who knows the other non road work stuff. When road work IS done it is great, but the cash runs out quick. Pay raise is fine, would we give up ours to return it to our employer? But I DO NOT understand selling needed equipment with NO replacement to get the service we expect, can\'t blame the highway supt. if his equipment is sold and can\'t do the job. Imagine the Quickway selling the gas pumps but still expect to sell gas. If Smith is upset then I can understand, how can the job be done without the tools. Lets go to the meeting!

October 30, 2014 10:32:04 EX Observer   Local - I am not sure where you get your information but if I were you I would check it out. Our Road Superintendent was working with the town before he became the Superintendent.
October 30, 2014 05:33:30 Local   Ex Observer you are so wrong the only reason the Highway Supertendent works along side his men is that he can give himself a pay raise every year and claim he is a working Supertendent.
October 29, 2014 19:51:55 just thinking   I think we all should go to Nov. meeting and find out the truth, after all, rumors are just that ,rumors!!!!Pass the word to attend the meeting before the budget is passed, afterwords is too late to complain.
October 29, 2014 18:27:49 cabin fever   Hate to rant more but I wanted to state I do get GOOD inside info. if you wondered. Lets just say speak with an exboard member that knows and understands our budget way more than "long time resident" who must be totally dense in the head and is clueless with any finance decision. Also probably lives on a state road and could give a *CENSORED* about town road residents. Again just go to the meeting, ask questions, don't listen to the mentally unstable "long time resident" LOL!!!! PS:I'm not bertimouse
October 29, 2014 18:01:29 cabin fever   Got distracted with thinking of the long post from the steam mill resident and forgot the bottom line as rumor has it on the street. Simple: surplus to be sold was to create income to purchase a modern sweeper, an even wash with NO tax increase!!! Math: sold surplus income $50K,purchase sweeper $50K equals Zero impact on budget to my figures. I will attend the next meeting to get the real facts as should all of you.
October 29, 2014 17:50:49 cabin fever   Word at the local gossip store is all the mandated items bring our town over the tax cap, this is before the crew pay increase. Also word on the street is the board is forcing the sales of FOUR pieces of equipment(includes street sweeper) and no replacement sweeper, so dusty roads this next summer. All sales go to offset taxes,is it even legal to sell highway trucks to raise tax funds??? Is it even the job of the department to fund the budget??? Last thing, who wants the supt. of hwy. job anyway when you are the bad guy who wants a cost of living wage increase and keep above water. No raise for him or the crew would equal what, maybe 1% on the tax base? I have seen the budget and out of the $550K only 20% goes to roads. Like on your home budget will the whole check go to the car payment? Like said earlier go and ask questions at the meeting. Put yourself in the situation of hwy. supt. would you still give the public the same service if forced to sell needed equipment, what next, sell plow trucks to off set taxes???
October 29, 2014 15:55:20 EX Observer   P.S. Don't forget to get out and vote election day. Our problems are not here locally they are in Albany and Washington.
October 29, 2014 15:48:37 EX Observer   While $555,000 for road maintenance seems like a lot; in reality today's prices and wages makes barely enough I would imagine. I am no expert in road repair and maintenance but I would rather have a Road Superintendent who works alongside his crew for 40 hours per week, than having a Road Superintendent who comes in a few hours a week and never goes into the field. Which is what a lot of them do. I think our situation here in Masonville is somewhat unique in that we have an elected working Road Superintendent. As to the 2% tax cap; the state of New York knows very well that 99% of the taxing districts in the state cannot keep to that cap. Seems like our present Superintendent has saved quite a lot of money during his time in office and has cut some great deals on equipment for the town. But, like I say I am no expert. It would be interesting to hear what someone with knowledge of the job has to say about the present situation.
October 29, 2014 13:35:57 Long time Resident.   Voter what is really happening. The Town Board is in charge of the budget they receive a estimate from the Highway Supertendent they tweak the budget to try to stay in the 2% increase in accordance with state law. they give the Highway Supertendent the budget to work with and He must perform the duties of the highway Supertendent in accordance with town law. The Highway Supertendent has had a more than adequate budget to maintain our roads with over 550,000 per year more than enough to maintain our roads at a high standard, Which he does not do a very good job at. Now the Highway Supertendent is whining and complaining that the board will not give him more money to keep the tax cap at the 2% increase by law. Calling people to support his position and berating the town board members for not giving him what he wants. It is time to start looking for another Highway Supertendent who can work in todays system and not just throw money and threaten not to repair roads and not plow roads because he did not get what he wants. He has received another pay increase does not manage his men or his scheduling very well and really is crying wolf because he does not care about how much the taxes increase. I feel everyone who pays taxes should be at this meeting to really find out what and why the highway Supertendent needs more money and why he feels that there should be a substantial tax increase because he refuses to use the resources that are available to solve these problems and stop complaining about not having enough money and just do his job with what the board gives him as a budget. Mr. Smith trying to throw this board under the bus might cost you a election. Wake up Mr. Smith.
October 28, 2014 18:51:24 voter   seems like the board and supervisor really feel in control instead of the voters. Why not everyone show up to Nov. meeting and find out what is really happening.
October 28, 2014 09:53:07 Dusty.   I heard that the Highway Supertendent got another pay raise this year. Maybe he can donate that back and repair the sweeper and he can win another reward.
October 27, 2014 17:50:08 non dusty   Have heard that our town board and supervisor are telling the highway dept to sell the road sweepers and some other equipment to save money. Sure am glad I do not live on a road that needs sweeping next spring. Everyone will be eating dust !!!! Maybe all should go to the next meeting and see what is really going on.
October 22, 2014 06:40:32 Denis Burpoe   Craig is there going to be another meeting. I did not know about this until Tues. Would like to attend.
October 20, 2014 10:02:18 resident   is craig calling the meeting ? did mike break his arm ? really strange! not every one reads this message board must be serious
October 19, 2014 19:14:39 Craig DuMond   By Order of the Town Supervisor: There will be a special meeting of the Masonville Town Board on Monday October 20, 2014 at 7:30pm for the purpose of further discussions of the 2015 Town Budget and any other business that may come before the Board.
October 16, 2014 21:38:52 what?   Just wondering, is it true Masonville operates on the smallest budget in Delaware county? What do you complainers have for suggestions to bring down mandated costs? The way I look at it we should always elect the most Conservative candidates and hope they operate that way, are they? I don't go to meetings and haven't saw any meeting 'minutes' in a while so I don't know for sure. Hey it could be worse, uhBama could be running our town!Lol!
October 15, 2014 19:46:59 cabin fever   I would love to respond with, Lets let em get a new truck as the fire dept. just did,but what is the best tax savings???? I did hear that only one person from the public cared to show up for how OUR tax money was to be spent at the public budget workshop. All I'm going to say is we will all get what ever comes to us. If anyone cared, this was the meeting to prove it, don't whine on this board about trucks and roads.
October 15, 2014 13:13:49 Local Resident   Cabin fever do we want our roads fixed sure we do at what cost. We already have almost a 600,000 dollar highway budget and they cannot keep our roads up to snuff now. I bet that this year the highway will be seeking any where from 50 to 100 thousand dollar increase to repair more trucks. Do we and can we afford anymore tax increase's. Health care premium's are about to go up over 17% at the beginning of the year our highway crew has all there health care cost payed by the Masonville taxpayers and if correct we also pay there co-pays. Will the taxpayers have to accrue this increase or should the workers pick up this out of there pay as everyone else does. This is the only place that I have heard of that the taxpayers pay all the health care and co pays. We could save enough with the employees paying their fair share maybe rebuild another truck. Just thing out loud.
October 14, 2014 16:57:56 Wendy Oldham wendy.oldham@frontier.com Heard there was a missing emu from Masonville area. One has been spotted, On Friday october 10 in Guilford, Oct 11, In White store cemetery in White store, Oct 13 on Shumway hill road, and today oct 14 on Medbury road south of Mt. Upton. it apears to be heading south toward Sidney.
October 14, 2014 15:56:31 what?   Frontier. They do a phone, high speed net (dsl) and if you want DishNet package one price. We pay $108 all together with the cheapest dish pack, but we are locked in. I think it normally cost $125. We bought a Roku for online tv to save money, it's only $8 month for each netflix, hulu plus, amazon prime, plus there is many free channels on the roku. Called Frontier when we bought it to drop dishnet and they said it would cost us more $ without it, so we just dropped it down to the lowest package. If you live in town they can get time warner cable, but I think their prices are worse.
October 14, 2014 09:21:30 New TO Masonville   I would like to know which Phone/Internet/TV services. company.is around Masonville... Please advise.
October 13, 2014 17:02:19 Rob   Patrick, I believe it had something to do with nasa.i heard they wanted tp take a sample frpm the clouds.I saw it online a few days after i saw the bright light.I dont know for sure tho?
October 11, 2014 00:39:07 Patrick Callaghan   Anyone know anything about a UFO sighting in Masonville in November 2010? Someone mentioned driving through Masonville in November 2010 and seeing what they thought was a UFO (i.e. bright lights). I am wondering if anyone else saw this and if the mystery was solved regarding what the source of the bright lights was. Thank you.
October 07, 2014 00:46:09 I got the fever!   Yeah we need the roads fixed! They need to paint some lines on them, how we supposed to keep it between the lines driving home at night drunk if there ain't no lines!
October 06, 2014 21:32:24 cabin fever   Want your road fixed? Budget meeting 10/8/14 @ town hall. This is when the money is set for the road repairs for next year. Don\'t show then don\'t complain when your road is not fixed. Let them know roads are important!
October 04, 2014 05:19:59 local   Does anyone know where you can buy a hunting license without going to Wal-Mart.
October 01, 2014 08:27:13 what?   WOW! The State is actually doing something? Bout time, that will be twice this year they got caught working. On a Sunday, getting paid double time, good use of taxpayers money! Well maybe they were using some of that "free" taxpayer money. 206 is better, but I bet the craters come back this winter, all they did was skim coat parts and run a grader over it, no roller. Lets see how the taxpayer money holds up.
